Lucy O’Brien
Principal Designer and Owner Lucy O’Brien creates memorable, highly cinematic interiors defined by luxe layering, carefully crafted palettes and unexpected twists while leading her team. Since founding Tartan & Toile, she has cultivated a collaborative practice, working closely with artisans around the world to shape singular environments that honor historical preservation, share a deep appreciation of craftmanship and reflect a meticulous storytelling style.
A graduate of the Shipley School and Johns Hopkins University, her practice was shaped by formative instruction in medicine and in fine arts. The work of Tartan & Toile is showcased regularly in regional and national design publications. Lucy was inducted into the House Beautiful Next Wave Class of 2025, a coterie of rising design stars chosen by the publication. She lives with her two children and husband in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.
